V. Rev. Archimandrite Philotheos Tomczewski

The V. Rev. Archimandrite Philotheos Tomczewski (George Tomczewski) was born on March 30, 1983 in Baltimore, Maryland to Steven and Flora (Meritis) Tomczewski. Upon completion of High School he began his studies in September of 2001 at Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in May of 2005. From September of 2005 until May of 2008 he studied at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts and graduated with a Master’s of Divinity. Upon graduation Fr. Philotheos was appointed by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey in June of 2008 as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Metropolis of New Jersey, a position that he held until January of 2021. In September of 2008 Fr. Philotheos was also appointed as the Director of Registry and Archivist for the Metropolis of New Jersey, a position that he holds till this day. In addition Fr. Philotheos has served the Metropolis as Chairman of numerous events and committees including the Clergy-Laity Assembly, Regional Awards Banquets, and Religious Education Seminars and currently serves as a Member of the Metropolis Council. On March 30, 2014 he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate at the Patriarchal Church of St. George in Constantinople by His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey and given the name Philotheos. On February 6, 2022 with the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, then Deacon Philotheos was given the Offikion of Archdeacon of the Metropolis of New Jersey by His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeia. On September 10, 2022 he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Asbury Park (Ocean), New Jersey and was granted the Offikion of Archimandrite by His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeia. From October of 2022 until August of 2023, he continued his studies at the School of Modern Greek language at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During his time in Greece, Father also served as the chaplain of the American Farm School in Thessaloniki. On August 16, 2023, Fr. Philotheos was appointed by His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey as the new Director of Communications and Development for the Metropolis of New Jersey and beginning on September 1, 2023, Fr. Philotheos was appointed to serve the pastoral and administrative needs of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
